How it will be organized and chaperoned:
The event will be held in the Middle School gymnasium, with girls on one side and boys on the other, chaperoned by two male teachers and two females so that one adult on each side will be awake at all times. No student will be allowed to go past the cafeteria section of the building. A signed parent permission slip and medical form will be required for each student to participate. The event is SGI School Board approved.
Special Features:
To in some way replicate a refugee’s experience, each student will be supplied with a tarp that will be connected with four chairs to sleep under. Further, they will be asked to bring only a sleeping bag without extensive air mattresses or pillows to use.
Other areas of the school that will be needed:
The cafeteria will be needed for an evening meal of rice and beans, as well as breakfast, both of which will be delivered by parent volunteers. The only custodial support that will be needed is to put up the divider in the school’s gymnasium.
